Excerpts on Avoid The Debris

“Go with the flow.”
“Get on track.”
“Allow the momentum to carry you along.”

Is our journey one that is energized with passion and pointed toward conviction-driven goals? How do we stay firmly centered on this road while avoiding the debris in our path and a host of detours?

Maintenance of Direction and Speed

To explore the concept of inertia/momentum further, let’s examine our experience with motion in the physical world. Vehicles, planes, bicycles, roller blades—anything that places us in motion highlights our awareness of an object’s tendency to maintain direction and speed. Braking and turning remind us that bodies desire to maintain the speed at which they were traveling, as well as the direction in which they were heading.

In the metaphysical world, motion submits to the same unchanging dynamics. Ideas and the pursuit of meaning also have a tendency to maintain direction and speed. Once in motion, ideas and the pursuit of meaning are often difficult to stop or divert. A particular person with an idea or conviction may encounter a barrier or diversion, but an idea with substance continues to maintain momentum.
